She Isn't Scared Anymore
Mary called from Ceres. She said she is thinking about an abortion but
she is scared. She wanted to know whether she could talk to someone. I
said, "You can talk to me."
I told Mary it was a good thing she is scared because an abortion would
be wrong for her. "It causes sterility 9-10% of the time, miscarriages
about 30% on the next pregnancy, and there is a large increase in tubal
pregnancies after an abortion. I told her the story of the woman in her
eighties who was still talking about the abortion she had when she was
in her early twenties. I also told her about the mother who had her
daughter jump off a refrigerator so she would miscarry. It didn't work
and now this child, a boy, is a grown man and the favorite grandchild
of this woman.
Mary mentioned her two-year-old girl. I said that she needed a brother
or sister. She told me her boyfriend wants the baby but said he would
abide by her decision. I mentioned that she was very fortunate that her
boyfriend wants the baby. She said they plan to marry later on this
year, and I suggested pushing up the wedding date.
I told Mary that God would not give her more than she could handle -
God doesn't over-burden us. I said that her little girl would be three
years old when the baby is born and could start helping her a little.
Mary then told me she wasn't going to have the abortion. She said I
could call her back in a week and mail her literature.

I called Mary back on Saturday morning. Mary has definitely changed her
mind about the abortion. She mentioned the "graphic pictures." I told
her this is a way to tell people that abortion is wrong. Mary told me
she argued about abortion with her stepmother and told her Dad the
story I told her about the woman who had her daughter jump off the
refrigerator to self-abort. Mary says she isn't scared anymore. I
suggested she pray with her boyfriend in the evening - read the Bible -
the Psalms, in particular.
